7 tips to get the most from your tablet

Generally less expensive than recent iPad models, Android tablets contain hidden riches and shortcuts to make your life easier. Especially since the last jewels of the sector are worth the detour. We recommend for example the Galaxy Tab S4 (515 €) for its autonomy, the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Plus (325 €) for its powerful speakers or the Huawei MediaPad M5 (350 €) for its large screen of 10, 8 inches, or 27.6 cm diagonally. Even if you have an older model, these tips will improve the multimedia potential of your equipment no matter what.

1 / I theme my home screens

All Android tablets have at least five “desks”, that is, five home screens on which your applications are stored. To discover these spaces, you must hold down the “Application” key then scroll from left to right. Creating specific offices is very practical and allows you not to get lost among all its apps. For example a special “photo and video” welcome screen, one for “games”, another for ” travel apps ” …

2 / I improve my reading comfort

To activate the hidden zoom, go to the “Parameters”, “Accessibility” section then “Magnification gestures”, and finally, validate. For your Internet browsing or when reading a document or an e-book, it is now possible to enlarge areas by tapping three times on the screen. On the third press, keep your finger on the slab, then move the area to be enlarged with the other finger, a bit like moving a magnifying glass on a sheet. To return to the normal display, tap the screen three times again.

3 / I simplify my navigation on the sites

You may have a tablet with a large screen, some sites persist in directing you to the mobile version of their pages, normally reserved for smartphones and therefore more limited and less pleasant. The only solution is to force Google Chrome to display the so-called “Desktop” version of the website. To do this, display the Chrome browser options menu and check the “See computer version” box

4 / I offer myself a quality sound

All films in DVD and Blu-ray versions offer a multi-channel soundtrack. Most tablets only have two speakers, so it is still possible to enjoy your movie in stereo, not mono, on a single speaker. All you need to do is install the BSPlayer applications, a paid video player (4.99 euros) or VLC Media Player, free, but more complicated to learn.

5 / I optimize the lighting of the screen (and I preserve my sight)

In addition to straining your eyes, setting the brightness of your tablet to maximum when you use it in the dark significantly depletes the battery. Instead of constantly adjusting the intensity manually, let the device do it. Indeed, it has a sensor that measures the light atmosphere of a room. Go to “Settings” then “Display”, “Brightness” and finally check “Automatically adjust”.

6 / I use facial recognition to unlock my screen

Since version 4.0 of Android, you can “open” your tablet by smiling at the camera that equips it. In “Settings”, press “Security”, “Screen lock”, choose the option “Face Unlock” then “Configure”. Place your head in the area corresponding to the dotted lines and the software sets the recognition of your face using the camera. Now, to use your tablet, all you have to do is stand in front of the lens. If you want to share this function with a loved one, nothing could be simpler: go back to “Settings”, press “Security”, “Improve facial correspondence” and save the face of the second user.

7 / I rationalize the storage memory

The more your memory is saturated, the more your tablet suffers from slowdowns. It is, therefore, better to regularly delete applications that you no longer use. In “Settings”, then “Applications”, press the icon to delete then “Uninstall”. Another solution is to store your applications on a microSD card (between € 10 and € 30) and reserve your tablet’s memory for your photos and films. Your device can thus gain up to 128 GB of additional memory. After having inserted the card in the notch provided for this purpose, click on “Settings”, “Applications” then go to “USB storage”. All the saved applications will then appear on the screen, simply press the name of one of them then “Move to USB
