The most anticipated conference of the year was held yesterday, Tuesday, September 14, 2021, to lift the veil on some new products stamped with the bitten apple. And once again, the Californian giant knew how to surprise us. While we expected to discover a new generation of AirPods, and we even hoped to see the arrival of the famous Apple Glass, other manufacturers have recently presented their own models of connected glasses, it was not. ultimately nothing. The Cupertino company has however reserved the surprise of a new iPad mini, while the stars of the event were of course the iPhone 13 and the Apple Watch Series 7. Presentations.
Let’s start with the one that creates the event each year: the new iPhone. If this Keynote has contradicted many rumors, they were quite right with regard to the famous Apple smartphone, 13th of the name. Starting with the fact that it strongly resembles its predecessor, also available in 4 models: the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 13 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Design level, it sports the same flat metal edges that made the elegance of the iPhone 12, but is distinguished in its classic and mini versions by a double photo lens arranged diagonally rather than vertically. And obviously, this 2021 vintage comes with its own colors: a “starlight” white, a “midnight” black, a (PRODUCT) RED, a nice light blue, and a pastel rosé for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, then gold, silver, graphite and “alpine” blue colors for the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.
Without presenting any real innovations compared to the iPhone 12, this new generation of iPhone still displays some nice new features on its technical sheet. A new A15 Bionic chip of course logically promised even more efficiency than the previous one. Longer battery life too, as well as a brighter Super Retina XDR display, the Pro versions even benefiting from a ProMotion panel with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, finally. Above all, it is the camera module that has apparently benefited from the most important upgrades across the range. We note in particular the arrival of optical image stabilization until then reserved for the Pro versions, on the wide-angle of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, while the Pro and the Pro Max see their ultra-wide lens. angle enjoy autofocus, which allows the arrival of a new macro mode.
IPHONE 13: NEW VIDEO OPTIONS, BETTER STORAGE
As for features, Apple also unveiled two nice new features: “Photographic Styles”, which allow customization of the software processing of photos, and a “Cinematic” mode to create beautiful effects in video, like in the cinema. Finally, while these four new iPhones are of course all 5G compatible, like the previous generation, they show a notable improvement in terms of storage capacities. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini now offer at least 128 GB of internal memory, while the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max open to a new capacity of 1 TB.
APPLE WATCH SERIES 7, AN EVEN BIGGER SCREEN
Another long-awaited novelty, the new connected watch of the brand with the bitten apple, the Apple Watch Series 7. With a new more rounded design really giving it the appearance of the little sister of the iPhone, it has been redesigned, starting with its Retina display, offering almost 20% more surface area compared to the Apple Watch Series 6, thanks to 40 edges % thinner. But it’s well known, it’s not just size that matters, and the other improvement for the screen is its brightness – indoors, it’s up to 70% brighter. For the rest, if we find the same now essential functions such as an electrical heart rate sensor, the blood oxygen sensor, workouts and other tools, we find new features such as the Mindfulness app. If the resistance has been boosted, the recharging has been accelerated by 33%, and the autonomy is announced of 18 hours with the same charge.
IPAD 9 AND IPAD MINI 6
Apple also took advantage of its September 14 keynote to present the 9th generation of its iPad, featuring a 10.2-inch retina screen and an A13 Bionic chip, multiplying performance by 20 compared to the old generation. The Centered Frame function, formerly only available on the iPad Pro, is now available, and it comes with a 12 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with Neural Engine technology. Thus, video calls are automatically more dynamic and natural. And this new iPad did not come alone, since it is accompanied by the 6th generation of an iPad mini. If the difference is – literally – in size (8.3 inches for the iPad mini), it is an A15 Bionic chip, therefore the same which equips the new iPhone 13, which has been installed. The performance of the iPad mini 6 is therefore 80% faster than that of the iPad mini 5, and this is the first time that such a difference has been observed between two generations. These two new models will be available from September 24.
